Vaccine For Chlamydia Shows Promise

Chlamydia - Quite Common and Widespread

Chlamydia is one of the most common and widespread sexually transmitted infections in the world. Chlamydia is the most commonly found STI among men and women in the UK. The main problem with the infection is that it doesn’t show any symptoms in many patients and as a result, people don’t get themselves tested. This means that many people with Chlamydia don’t know that they have the infection and thus, indulge in sexual practices that transfer the infection to uninfected individuals. This is what makes Chlamydia potentially dangerous. The added fact that Chlamydia can lead to extreme complications among patients can’t be ignored either.

There is no vaccine currently available in the market which can provide protection to the individual against the infection. While there are treatments available once the infection gets diagnosed, there is no way for an uninfected individual to gain protection from this potentially dangerous STI. One should always take precautions knowing that there are a lot of people with undiagnosed Chlamydia but having a vaccine would make life so much easier. There haven’t been many efforts made for developing a vaccine for Chlamydia with the main reason being a failed vaccine in the early 60’s and 70’s.

A Potential New Vaccine for Chlamydia in the Offing

In recent times, seeing the rise in cases of Chlamydia, researchers have once again started working on developing a vaccine for Chlamydia. One such research has resulted in the development of a potential vaccine for Chlamydia which has been tested on rats and has shown great results. Even though the vaccine is in its early stages of development and has only been tested in rats, the positive sign showed by the vaccine and the great results observed in the tested rats holds promise that once the vaccine would be tested on humans, it would prove to be the beginning of the end for Chlamydia.

The new vaccine actually consists of ultra violet light with the UV light actually present alongside nanoparticles. Nanoparticles help in boosting an individual’s immune system and this is why it is believed that the new vaccine proves a strong enough deterrent against Chlamydia bacteria. According to the research conducted on rats, it was found that the vaccine is able to kill the bacteria carrying the infection when it is sprayed over womb’s inner surface or in the nose.

The research showed that the UV light with the nanoparticles produced great results amongst rats while UV light on its own caused a few complications in the tested rats. Since the research is still in its early stages, it would be wrong to think of the vaccine as the ultimate cure for Chlamydia but it won’t be wrong to keep tabs on the vaccine as a potential option that can be used for protection from Chlamydia.

What Should You Know About Chlamydia?

Since the vaccine is still a long way from being introduced in the market and considered safe for human use, it’s important that you gain knowledge about Chlamydia like

How is it transmitted?

What are its symptoms?

What are its complications?

How can you get tested?

What are your treatment options?

You should also know about precautions to keep yourself safe from Chlamydia even while sexual intercourse with an undiagnosed infected individual.

The most important thing that you should understand about STIs is that they get transmitted as a result of unhealthy and unsafe sexual practices. If you will practice safe sex, the chances of a STI’s transmission would reduce significantly anyways.

The other important thing that you should know about Chlamydia in particular is that it shows no symptoms in most cases and if you have indulged in unsafe sexual practices, you should get yourself tested to check if you have the infection or not. Getting tested remains important so that you can know if you are infected or not. In case you find out that you have the infection, you can get the treatment and not have sex during that time period. In case the test comes back negative, you can always stay calm that at least you won’t be responsible for transmitting the dangerous infection. You can find out more here.

Online Chlamydia Testing

Seeing the importance of Chlamydia testing and seeing the sensitivity of the topic for many people, a lot of companies are now offering online Chlamydia testing. There have been new app launched for STIs too. The idea behind online testing is secrecy and ease of use. All you need to do is to go the site and order the test. You would be sent a testing kit with instructions on how to collect the samples. Once you will send back the sample, you will be told the results via e-mail within a few hours. Some testing centers even offer the option of online treatment after seeing your test results. You can get a chlamydia test online here if you think you might be carrying the infection.
