06.12.07 We are upping roots!!

Apologies for any recent inactivity, but we are upping sticks after christmas and moving to a new building! Bad? No good! We will have an even better studio than the one we have presently, purpose built with a proper glass-fronted gallery and all the works, and then the report days will continue in ernest!!

Just finished the new design, I hope it is easier to use! Visit the gallery and videos section, as almost all the image galleries are now uploaded!

12.07.07 Bonus Pastor complete their fourth Report Day!!

Bonus Pastor completed their fourth Report Day today, successfully going live at 2:00pm! Today was also the first time we have tried reporting a breaking news story, written at the last minute by the editorial team and read off paper because there is no time to get it to the autocue!

A great success, well done to both the editorial and technical teams!

05.07.07 Bonus Pastor complete their third report day!!

We went live at exactly 2:00pm today thanks to everyone from Bonus Pastor Catholic College!

Both students and teachers did a great job in gathering news stories, weather forecasts and sports news!

A stellar job and we'll be seeing Bonus Pastor next week for their fifth Report Day!!

07.06.07 St.Saviour's Roman Catholic School Come to Lewisham CLC!!

Children from St. Saviour's Roman Catholic School come to Lewisham CLC today, they will use our studio now and in coming sessions to record a program about their school

17.05.07 BBC News School Report Day Awards 2007...

On the 17th of May the BBC held an awards ceremony at Television Centre to recognise the achievement of students who participated in the News Day on the 22nd of March.

Ian represented the CLC along with the students and member of staff from Bonus Pastor Catholic College who contributed to the live broadcast on News Day.

The students enjoyed a behind the scenes tour of Television Centre and were able to talk to BBC staff and presenters before being presented with an award by Ellie Crisell.

120 schools took part in the School Report Day, of which 21 were commended, based on a combination of quality of work and level of participation in the project. Lewisham CLC was one of these 21 commended organisations.

It was great to talk to other participants, and to share ideas, tips and resources.

22.03.07 BBC School Report Day a great success!!!

Students and teachers from Bonus Pastor Catholic College, Deptford Green and Forest Hill schools arrived at Lewisham CLC at 9:00am and got straight down to researching today's top news and sports stories.

A number of BBC Mentors were on hand throughout the day, helping students to find stories and pictures, and to write their scripts to a professional standard in a very short time.

Meanwhile, another group were editing film that they had taken at school during the previous week, on the subject of global warming. Yet another group were busy preparing a weather forecast. In the studio, the technical team rehearsed endlessly, to master the equipment that would bring the broadcast live to the internet.

By lunchtime, the pressure was on. All the editorial meetings had taken place, the scripts were nearly ready and the final touches were being put to the local package (global warming) video. Students were frantically texting parents and friends with the live link address, and teachers were phoning their schools.

There was barely time to stop for lunch as the deadline loomed. Everybody worked really hard to give us enough time for 1 rehearsal, before successfully broadcasting at the 2:00pm deadline

20.03.07 Preparations for 22nd March

Students from Bonus Pastor get ready to interview the Mayor of Lewisham, Steve Bullock for their story on reducing individual carbon footprints.

08.03.07 Bonus Pastor At Lewisham CLC

Bonus Pastor did their second Report Day today! The editorial team did a great job, as did the technical teams. The students made a film about "carbon footprints" and did a great report about the shortage of women managers in business.

08.02.07 BBC Cameraman Comes to the CLC

A professional cameraman from the BBC paid us a visit today to show us how to properly frame shots and film things!

08.02.07 Shiny New Facilities in the Studio!!

the TV studio has two new autocue monitors, one for the weather and one in the gallery, meaning the weather presenter no longer has to squint at sheets of A3 paper!

Also, today there are two shiny new "on air" lights going up, one on either side of the newsroom door, so we now feel like a proper newsroom!!

01.02.07 Forest Hill Students Do Their Second Newsday!!

They did it in August last year and they have done it again! Forest hill successfually put out their second! The staff and students did a wonderful job and the whole broadcast was put out on time! Well done Forest Hill!

18.01.07 Bonus Pastor comes to Lewisham CLC

Bonus Pastor did their newsday with us on Thursday the 18th of January. It was a great success! Students did a wonderful job of writing the scripts and learning the technical ropes and the teachers and BBC mentors played a vital role.

The local news item concerned the controversy about wearing religious symbols in school and the gale force winds featured on the live weather report at the end of the program.

15.01.07 new graphics made for the newsday

To improve accessability and smooth the running of the day, name badges, team sheets and tutorials have been created, to quickly and independantly help take people through the day.

13.07.06 Forest Hill take part in first newsday pilot at Lewisham CLC

Forest Hill students successfully recorded their first broadcast here at LEwisham CLC! It was a new experiance for staff and students alike but everyone did a great job!
